To the Editor:
On behalf of Citizens Bank, I’d like to thank everyone who made the Citizens Bank Gear for Grades school supply drive such a success. With the help of our customers, colleagues and other members of the community, 12,000 pounds of new school supplies were collected at Citizens Bank branches and operations centers across Rhode Island.
Since Citizens Bank launched the Gear for Grades program nine years ago, the demand for back to school supplies for children has continued to grow each year. This year, Citizens Bank partnered with Back to School of Rhode Island, a non-profit whose mission is to provide outstanding quality educational programs helping individuals and families reach their full intellectual potential.
With the support of Coast to Coast Promotional Products, 92 PRO FM and many community partners throughout the state, Citizens Bank and Back to School of RI provided 14,000 Rhode Island children with new backpacks and school supplies for the start of the new school year.
At Citizens Bank, we believe good banking is good citizenship. From Woonsocket to Newport, more than 20 local businesses and nonprofits, along with the members of our community, worked together so that our children went back to school with the gear they need to succeed. Our collaborative efforts ensured that children can focus on their education and not worry about the pens, pencils and notebooks they need to complete their schoolwork.
I was fortunate enough to hand out backpacks to children at the United Way in Providence, one of 11 distribution sites throughout Rhode Island. The excitement and smiling faces of the many children I met reminded me how impactful the Gear for Grades program really is.
On behalf of all of the children who received backpacks this year, thank you.
President, Citizens Bank, Rhode Island
