George F. Cole, 90, of Pierce Avenue, a retired diesel mechanic and owner of the former Cole & Sons Petroleum Service, Inc., died March 28, 2012 at Kent Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Carmen M. (Marcello) Cole for 66 years.
He was the son of the late Arthur F. and Rosa E. (Gardiner) Cole. Mr. Cole was a World War II Army veteran and participated in the invasion of Normandy and received the Good Conduct, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one bronze arrowhead and four bronze service stars, WWII Victory Medal, Distinguished Unit Emblem with one Bronze Oak-Leaf Cluster Belgian Fourraegere.
His funeral service was held April 2 in Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Chapel, 2435 Warwick Ave. Burial with military honors was in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. For information and condolences visit www.thequinnfuneralhome.com.
