George Michael Whittaker passed away peacefully on July 7th, 2015 after a two year battle with emphysema. At the time of his passing, George was 58 years old.

George was born on January 5th, 1957, in Warwick, RI. He was the first of five children, and first son, of Jacqueline Regina and George James Whittaker. George lived his entire life in Warwick. He was an icon in the city. George was the best fisherman any of his friends and family ever knew, he taught his entire family the art of fishing, one nephew is now a commercial fisherman and he credits George for teaching him and passing his love for the sport to him.

George was an accomplished writer, creating many wonderful poems that were enjoyed by his family and friends. Many of George’s writings would capture his kindness, gentle demeanor, and compassion for those affected by random acts of senseless violence. He was always eager to share his latest and greatest work with his family and friends. George’s kind soul, humorous personality, and gregarious spirit will be greatly missed by all that knew him. His 11 nieces and nephews are the first to tell the entire family “Uncle George is the funniest, and kindest in the whole family.”

George is survived by three sisters, Jacqueline Petrarca of Warwick, Lisa LeFebvre or Warwick, Claire Tschirley of Wickford and a brother, James Whittaker of East Greenwich. He is also survived by 11 nieces and nephews; and six great-nieces and great-nephews.
