George Tarring, III

George Tarring, III, age 95, formerly of West Bay Manor, West Shore Road, Warwick, and Church Avenue, Warwick, died on Sunday, June 22, 2014, at Brentwood Nursing Home in Warwick. He was the husband of the late Grace (Safstrom) Tarring, to whom he was married for 57 years.

Born in Warwick, the son of the late George Tarring, Jr. and Ellen (Sanmark) Tarring, he was a life-long Warwick resident. Mr. Tarring also spent sixteen winters in St. Petersburg, Florida, and many summers at Indian Lake Shores in South Kingstown. He was a machine designer, and was employed by the United States Navy at Newport, and at Nicholson File Co. and Grinnell Corporation in Providence for many years, retiring in 1980.

Mr. Tarring was a life-long member of the Woodbury Union Church, Presbyterian in Warwick, and a former church elder and Sunday School teacher. He and his wife were avid campers and members of the Traildusters camping group.

He is survived by two sons, George A. Tarring and his wife, Jane, of Warwick, and Alan W. Tarring and his wife, Susan, of Rochester, New Hampshire; five grandchildren, Amy Sleep, Kim Celeste, Eric Tarring, Mathew Tarring, and Cristina Goupil; and ten great-grandchildren.

His funeral service will be held on Friday, June 27, at 10 a.m. in the Woodbury Union Church, Presbyterian, 58 Beach Avenue, Warwick. Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. in the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston.
