George Thorogood & The Destroyers set to bring ‘Badder Than Ever’ tour to Park Theatre in March

With an award-winning career that spans more than four decades, George Thorogood and his legendary band The Destroyers have embarked on their latest tour, set to thrill legions of fans as the most bad-to-the-bone performers in rock.

On Sunday, March 8, George Thorogood & The Destroyers will bring their “Badder Than Ever” tour to Cranston’s Historic Park Theatre. Tickets are on sale now.

Surprising to many, Thorogood began his career as a solo acoustic act in the early 1970s before founding The Delaware Destroyers with high-school friend and drummer Jeff Simon. Almost immediately, the group’s blues and boogie rock sound with bar band roots helped them achieve early success, contributing to the rise of the Cambridge-based independent label Rounder Records. Recorded in Boston, the band’s first album, “George Thorogood and The Destroyers,” was released in 1977, becoming certified Gold thanks to the timeless hit, “One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer.”

In 1981, the band received its biggest break, gaining major exposure by opening for the Rolling Stones on their U.S. tour. Shortly after, the band appeared on “Saturday Night Live,” later performing in all 50 states in just 50 days during their legendary “50/50 Tour.” This period of success was punctuated when the band released three more Gold albums, “Move It On Over,” “Bad to the Bone,” and “Maverick,” making them a household name with mega-hits, “Who Do You Love,” “I Drink Alone,” “Move It On Over,” and the most popular tune of them all, “Bad To The Bone.”

Throughout the band’s illustrious career, they have played more than 8,000 live shows, selling some 15 million albums worldwide, including six Gold and two Platinum releases. While the years on the calendar have changed, Thorogood, the maverick guitar-slinger, has stayed true to his style of electrifying music.

“Every night when I walk out on that stage is the highlight of my career,” explains Thorogood. “I hit that first chord, the band kicks in, and we hear the audience respond – that’s the rush. Over 40 years into this and every night is still the only moment that matters.”

George Thorogood & The Destroyers will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 8. Tickets are $35, $45 and $55 and are available by calling 467-PARK or online at www.ParkTheatreRI.com. The Park Theatre is located at 848 Park Ave. in Cranston. Free parking is available for all shows.
