George V. Clegg, age 83, of Brunswick Drive, Warwick, died peacefully on May 24, 2013, with his family by his side. He was the loving husband of the late Rita (Schnell) Clegg.
Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Edmund J. & Mary C. (Egan) Clegg. Before retiring in 2005, Mr. Clegg was an accountant for over 30 years. He was a graduate of Bryant College and was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War. He was the Tax Assessor for the City of Warwick from 1973-1977. George spent many years enjoying his summer home at Matunuck Beach. He also enjoyed working in his vegetable garden and spending time at Conimicut Point with his friends and his dog.
He was the father of one daughter, Sheila M. Lombardi and her husband, Tobias, of East Greenwich. He also leaves two grandchildren, Jack and Samantha Lombardi. He was the brother of Edmund J. Clegg of Barrington, John W. Clegg of Warwick, and the late Marie C. McGrady.
His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 28, at 11 a.m. in the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick. Burial with military honors will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
