In honor of National Mental Health Month, Angell Street Psychiatry hosted a 5K run/walk to support the RI Special Olympics held in Goddard Park on May 16 called “Get Psyched 5K.” Under the direction of Dr. David Krossler, Medical Director of Angell Street Psychiatry, the event raised approximately $5,000 benefit the RI Special Olympics. The RI Special Olympics program, according to their website “is one of the world’s most dynamic, providing over 1,600 year-round sports training and athletic competitions for more than 2,800 athletes and hosting over 40 local, regional, and statewide tournaments and competitions each year in 25 official and demonstration sports.”

The first to cross the finish line was Lee Allan with a time of 20:43, and the first woman to finish was Karen Livsey with a time of 24:57.

On hand from RI Special Olympics was their CEO, Dennis DeJesus. The event was organized and coordinated by Jennifer Kennedy of Warwick. She is a former graduate of Pilgrim High School and Assumption College. More than 120 runners and walkers took to the 5K route as sunshine won out over forecasted rain. Also with Kennedy was Patty McLaughlin, Business Manager at Angell Street Psychiatry and Rachel Lee, Senior Administrative Assistant also at Angell Street Psychiatry. Kennedy is a former employee who is now working in marketing.

Angell Street Psychiatry has offices in Warwick, Johnston, and Providence. They are also a teaching site for Boston University School of Medicine and Rhode Island College School of Social Work.
