Gloria M. (Clays) Hughes, 87, of Warwick died early Friday morning. She was the wife of the late James F. Hughes.

Born in Providence, a daughter of the late August P. and Marguerite M. (Whalen) Clays, she had been a Warwick resident for 60 years. Mrs. Hughes was a charter member of St. Kevin Church where she served as president of the Women’s Club and coached the Drama Club. She was also a professional singer before retiring in 1988.

She leaves three sons, James P. Hughes of Warwick, John V. Hughes of Wakefield and Joseph R. Hughes of East Greenwich; three daughters, Carol F. Devine of North Scituate, Deborah A. DeRosa of Warwick and Suzanne M. Skiffington of Wakefield; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was the sister of Richard F. Clays of Narraganset, Robert A. Clays of New Jersey, Alma L. Morin of Coventry, the late Patricia A. Siner, Judith Clays, Marguerite M. Porier and Virginia Clays.

Her funeral will be Tuesday at 9 a.m. from the Frank P. Trainor & Sons Funeral Home, 982 Warwick Avenue, Warwick. Mass of Christian Burial in Saint Kevin Church, Sandy Lane Warwick at 10 a.m. Calling Hours, Monday 5-8 p.m.
