Officers of the Edgewood Yacht Club say construction on the clubhouse to replace the iconic Victorian building that burned to the water during a winter storm in 2011 is going as planned. Thirty of the 48 steel piles designed to elevate the two-story clubhouse above a storm surge have been driven, and welding of the cross-members has started. With the pile driving and foundation work completed, club secretary David Gavin expects the superstructure will start in about six weeks. Club insurance claims and Brown University whose sailing team will occupy the second floor will pay for the facility estimated at cost about $4 million. Surveying work on Sunday are Renee Lemay, treasurer, and her husband Paul, who is fleet captain and Gavin. (Herald photos)
