Gontran O. “Gunny” Torcq

Gontran O. “Gunny” Torcq, age 74, of Cedar Swamp Road, Warwick, died on Friday, December 26, 2014, at Kent County Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Elizabeth A. (Safford) Torcq for 53 years.

Born in Belgium, the son of the late George G. and Rachael M. (Driesseus) Torcq, he lived in Warwick for most of his life. He was a United States Navy veteran. Mr. Torcq was employed at the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics in North Kingstown for 28 years before retiring. He was a life member of the Warwick Lodge of Elks, now Tri-City Lodge of Elks # 14, and a member of the Oakland Beach Volunteer Firefighters Club. He liked to tell jokes and make people laugh.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Denise A. Hunold and her husband, Robert of Warwick; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late Rachel M. Johnson-Kilday and Jason G. Torcq.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 31, at 10 a.m. from the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick, with a committal at St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. Please omit flowers.
