So you’re anxious to try the results of the marriage between Warwick Ice Cream and Autocrat Coffee – coffee milk ice cream? Well, you may have difficulty finding it. According to Barry Newman, director of sales and marketing for Warwick Ice Cream, the demand for the new no GMO, gluten-free ice cream has surpassed expectations. Newman said the partnership with Autocrat was the brainchild of Vincent and Tom Bucci Jr., “the young Turks of the company,” as he calls them. Newman said it took a year before the new flavor met with everyone’s approval and production started. Since coming on the market, the orders keep coming in with the latest being from Sam’s Clubs in Warwick, Seekonk and Fall River. Munroe Dairy and Dave’s Marketplace also are among the many outlets. Newman said he even got a call from a Barrington woman who wanted to ship the ice cream to her son out of state. He told her what to do, from buying dry ice to packing everything in newspaper and getting FedEx to ship it. She wanted to know what that all might cost for 5 or 6 pints of coffee milk. When he estimated $100, she told him, “That’s all right.” That’s the kind of demand there is for coffee milk, although maybe not in China, where Warwick Ice Cream is shipping green tea ice cream, but then, Rhode Islanders have their favorites.
