Grand opening at Cranston's Stage Door Lounge August 2-4

New manager Kevin Gould has big plans for Cranston’s Stage Door Lounge. The attractive facility is part of the recent Park Theatre renovations on Park Ave., across from Cranston City Hall.

Not a lot has happened at the lounge and upstairs banquet facility since the Park opened as an entertainment venue, but all that is about to change “for the good,” says the former salesman from North Providence.

“We want to establish a positive reputation as one of the leading cafes and lounges in the state, and I believe we have the perfect location to do that,” said Gould, “We are not a night club, we are a lounge. Our clientele will be an older, more mature crowd.”

“We’ve had a soft opening, bringing in some local bands,” he said. “Our summer hours are 4 p.m. to 1 a.m Wednesday through Sunday. We’ll be open seven nights a week beginning in the fall.”

Gould’s first challenge was providing food and drinks for the sold-out Manhattan Transfer audience last month.

“Everything went very smoothly, with our six full-service bars in operation before and after the show and during intermission.”

With over 60 shows booked at the Park for the upcoming season, and many more to come, Gould will be supporting the operation in addition to booking everything from baby showers to bachelor parties, plus nightly entertainment in the lounge. He has hired Fausto Cabrera, former chef at the Warwick Country Club, to run the kitchen operation, both for the lounge, dinner before the shows and special functions.

For those who wish to stop in at the lounge after work or in the evening, the bar menu will include such items as chicken wings, calamari, salads, soups and a chef special tomato and mozzarella tower. Entrees will include a Back Stage Door Burger, rubbed with Cajun spices and topped with cheddar cheese and jalapenos, and a Fenway sausage sandwich with onions and peppers, plus beer-battered scrod and Kevin’s favorite: tortellini with roasted peppers, black olives and chicken breast tossed with pesto sauce and cheese tortellini.

Plans are to bring in a variety of entertainment, including local bands, DJ’s, comedians, salsa, jazz and folk.

“This is an over 21 lounge, and we will do our best to provide the best entertainment, food and drinks in the area,” Gould said.

He is mindful of the challenges in improving the image and attracting a good clientele.

“Look around,” he said. “This is a beautiful facility. We just need to find our niche and let people know that we are here.”

Stop by August 2-4 for their grand opening. Any local talent that would like to perform is encouraged to stop in and talk to Kevin. (“I’ve had several inquiries already.”) The popular World Premiere Band will be performing during the grand opening.
