Grassroots group continues fight against HPV mandate

Posted

With the school year underway, the Department of Health’s mandate for all 7th graders to have the HPV vaccine has already been implemented, but that hasn’t stopped protestors and safe vaccine advocates from trying to reverse it.

Rhode Islanders Against Mandated HPV, a grassroots movement opposing the mandate, and the Council for Vaccine Safety have partnered to host Making Waves in the Ocean State at Coventry High School this Friday. The rally will finish with a presentation with speakers from all over the country and various disciplines.

Speakers include Brandy Vaughan, former Merck employee, Vaccine Safety advocate and founder of Council For Vaccine Safety; Dr. Diane Harper, professor and chair of the Department of Family and Geriatric Medicine at the University of Louisville; Dr. Toni Bark, former director of the Pediatric Emergency Depart at Michael Reese Hospital; Rhode Island Representative Justin Price (D-39), additional state representatives and legal spokespeople and Aimee Gardiner and Shawna Lawton, leaders of the Rhode Islanders Against Mandated HPV Vaccinations.

Topics for the presentation will include research, informed consent and the legislative processes for vaccines. Both groups want to see the vaccine mandate repealed so parents can make their own informed decisions with their children and primary care doctors.

The “Making Waves in the Ocean State” rally and presentation will be this Friday, Oct. 2, at Coventry High School, starting at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 a person and can be purchased at www.gaspeeproject.com/makingwaves.

This event is not just for parents with questions about the HPV vaccine requirement, but also those interested in preserving informed vaccine choice. At this event, you can obtain information and facts, then make your own judgement on what is best for yourself and your children. This group was started by two grandmothers and grandparents are more than welcome to attend as well.
