Greenwood Care and Rehab wins national quality award

The Rhode Island Health Care Association has announced that five of its member facilities are recipients of the 2012 American Health Care Association National Quality Award program. Grand Islander Center Genesis HealthCare in Middletown was one of only two skilled nursing facilities in the nation to receive the program’s highest honor – the Gold Award. Only 11 other facilities have earned the award since the program began in 1996.

South County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in North Kingstown and Bayberry Commons in Pascoag were two of the 52 Silver Award winners throughout the country. Trinity Health and Rehabilitation Center in Woonsocket and Greenwood Care and Rehabilitation Center in Warwick won Bronze Awards. A total of 458 skilled nursing or assisted living facilities from across the country earned a Bronze, Silver or Gold from the three-tiered award program that commends those facilities that focus on improving the quality of care for the individuals they serve. There have been 35 awards received by Rhode Island facilities since the program was initiated.

Centered on the criteria of the renowned Baldrige Performance Excellence Program, the AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award program has encouraged long-term and post-acute care facilities to achieve performance excellence through continuous learning and development.

The Quality Awards are sponsored by AHCA/NCAL Associate Business Member My InnerView – a web-based applied research and quality management company that supports leaders across the entire assisted living, senior housing and skilled nursing profession with tools to measure, benchmark and improve performance. Each year, Rhode Island facilities are measured on customer and workforce satisfaction by the research company. Results show that Rhode Island skilled nursing and rehabilitation centers routinely score among the best in the nation on satisfaction data.

The awards will be presented during AHCA/NCAL’s 63rd Annual Convention & Expo, Oct. 7-10 in Tampa, Fla.
