Chowder chefs and chowder lovers alike gathered together at the 34th annual Great Chowder Cook-Off Saturday, June 12. Some of the best chefs in New England put their skills to the test competing for the coveted titles of “Best Clam” and “Best Seafood” chowder, along with the thousands of dollars in cash prizes accompanying the titles.

The event, usually held at the Newport Yachting Center, was held at Fort Adams State Park in Newport this year for the first time. The guests had the opportunity to eat unlimited chowder throughout the day and were tasked with choosing the winners of the competition.

Taking home third place in the “Best Clam” contest was Warwick’s Grid Iron Ale House and Grille. Second place went to McT’S Tavern from Cumberland, and first place was awarded to The Barking Crab from Newport.

In the “Best Seafood” competition, StoneRidge from Mystic, Conn., took third, Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School from Taunton, Mass., took second and first place was given to The Mooring Seafood Kitchen & Bar, Newport.

McT’S Tavern and Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School pulled in two more awards with the former taking home the prize for “Most spirited team” and the latter winning the prize for “Best decorated booth.”
