Rhode Island Interfaith Power & Light and SmartPower have launched the Interfaith Solar Initiative, a multi-denominational solar effort designed to bring solar power to faith institutions, their members, and to educate Rhode Island residents on the many financial and environmental benefits of solar electricity.
According to a release, as humanity is confronted with the huge threat of climate change, faith communities throughout Rhode Island understand that installing solar power is one action every faith community, and every person of faith can take to reduce carbon emissions.
The statewide initiative provides easy and affordable solar photovoltaic (PV) system options for faith communities and their members. Participants will have access to free solar workshops, solar incentive information, zero-down solar financing, and the ability to work one-on-one with trained solar ambassadors from their community.
The Interfaith Solar Initiative is a statewide program supported by a network of faith-based organizations, community groups, and dedicated individuals. The goal of the program is to install
60 new solar electric systems in Rhode Island this year. Faith communities, under the leadership of Rhode Island Interfaith Power & Light, have embraced this effort.
“We can make a tangible difference today when we purchase and use solar power in our homes,” said Rev. Dr. Anita Louise Schell, president of Rhode Island Interfaith Power & Light, “thereby decreasing our dependence on fossil fuels and increasing our commitment to celebrating all God ’s creation.”
“Communities of faith continue to be leaders in solar adoption,” said Brian F. Keane, president of SmartPower.
“We are honored to partner with Rhode Island Interfaith Power & Light to launch this exciting new program throughout the state. We ’re excited to see solar on churches, temples, mosques and other houses of worship. And we look forward to working with the members of these faith communities to bring solar to their homes too!”
