Gun parts found in baggage search at Green Airport

The Rhode Island Airport Police and the Rhode Island State Police won’t be releasing any more information than they already have about the seized weapon parts reportedly found in stuffed animals by the TSA on Monday.

The Rhode Island Airport Police took custody of the parts that were found in two stuffed animals intended to be taken into the passenger section of a plane for a flight to Detroit, Mich.

“The FBI and Rhode Island State Police were notified of this incident and participated in a joint investigation. After extensively interviewing the father and conducting the followup investigation, it was determined that this case involved a domestic custody dispute, and there was no threat to aviation safety,” according to a release from RIAC. “The father and 4-year-old son were released pending further investigation.”

The TSA allowed the father and son to continue with their travel plans the following day. The joint investigation involving the Rhode Island Airport Police, FBI and Rhode Island State Police is ongoing.

“Due to the fact that this is an on-going criminal investigation, no further details can be released,” according to the release. “At the conclusion of this investigation, further details will be provided.”
