(Hardcore, violent chase film with a twist)
Here’s a clever idea: Film the entire movie through the eyes of the protagonist. The trouble is that the protagonist is a mean, out-of-control robot out to violently kill everybody who gets in his way. What we get is an hour and a half of nonstop violence and perversion making absolutely no sense.
Director/writer Ilya Naishuller is most certainly putting us on in this ultimate chase movie that will make your head spin and your stomache turn.
We first meet Henry in some laboratory in a flying vehicle. He escapes, landing in the middle of complete chaos, with people appearing out of nowhere to destroy him. Some of the dialogue is in Russian sub-titles. The killings are in bloody red. The plot is in the toilet. There is a long scene in a brothel that is more disgusting then the rest of the movie.
Joyce was smart enough to stay home. I was smart enough to leave before the end, so I don’t know how it ended. And I don’t care.
Rated R. It makes “The Boss” look like “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.”
