The Bishop Hendricken High School Hall of Fame Class of 2013, which will be honored during a ceremony on Oct. 27, includes three familiar faces to the city of Warwick.

Director of Secondary Education Dennis Mullen will be inducted in the Distinguished Faculty category, for his decade as a social studies and English teacher, and assistant principal of student affairs at Hendricken. Mullen then joined the Warwick School Department, where he has been for 23 years, serving as an academic department head and Pilgrim High School principal before working as an administrator. He was named Rhode Island High School Principal of the Year in 2011, and also serves as Extended Day Coordinator at the Community College of Rhode Island Knight Campus.

A native of the Greenwood area of Warwick, Joseph Healey will enter the Hall of Fame in the Distinguished Alumni category. A member of the Class of 1984, Healey is senior managing director with HealthCor Management, a preeminent hedge fund managing $2.5 billion. In addition to his professional success, Healey made giving back to his alma mater a primary objective of his philanthropic efforts. The Healey Scholars program provides full-tuition scholarships for 18 students at Hendricken, and Healey has donated over $1 million to the school.

In addition, Warwick Veterans Memorial High School principal Gerry Habershaw, Class of 1983, will be inducted into the Hendricken Athletic Hall of Fame for his time as a member of the baseball, football and basketball teams. Other inductees for the Athletic Hall of Fame are Michael Creedon, '65; Brian Crudden, '71; David T. Kenney, Jr., Paul Mangili, '83; and Joe Turilli, '01. They will be inducted during the same ceremony on Oct. 27.

The remaining three individual inductees into the Hall of Fame are Roland J. Fiore and Ted and Trish Garrahy.

Fiore, a member of the Class of 1979, will join the Alumni Service group of the Hall of Fame. A man with a 30-year career in real estate development, road construction, and sand and gravel operations, Fiore, who is vice president of the Rhode Island Builders Association and a director with Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation, has graciously helped to supply Hendricken with guidance and materials for many projects. Fiore is already a member of the Athletic Hall of Fame for his time with the basketball team.

The Garrahys, parents of Hendricken students (Patrick, Class of 2002; Ian, Class of 2009; and Conor, Class of 2014), are being inducted in the Volunteer Service category for their many years of commitment to the school community. Both have served on the Parents Council, played roles in the Strategic Plan for Advancement, and been part of the leadership team behind the first annual “For The Boys” event for tuition assistance. Individually, Ted is on the Board of Directors and has been on committees for the Inner-City Scholarship Fund Cigar Dinner and athletic facilities beautification, while Trish volunteers as an auction committee co-chair for the annual fashion show.

In addition to individual inductees, two groups are entering the Hall of Fame this year. The students behind the school’s 2007 production of "All Shook Up" will join the Legends category. The production, which featured over 70 student performers and crew members, is considered a “crowning achievement” in the history of the Arts Program, playing a key role in increasing student participation in the program and audience support. The shows were eventually featured in two national magazines highlighting high school theater.

Finally, The Brothers of Holy Cross will be inducted in the Honorary Alumni category. The members of the order were the first teachers and administrators at the school. Dozens of Holy Cross Brothers served the school, including Brother Francois Guilbault, C.S.C. as principal for the first graduating class in 1962. The order left the school in the early ’70s.

The induction ceremony will take place on the Hendricken Campus, beginning with a Mass at 10 a.m. followed by the ceremony and lunch. Tickets to the ceremony are available for $40 and can be purchased by calling Michele King, advancement officer at Hendricken, at 738-6971, ext. 131.

Individuals are nominated for induction into the Hall of Fame throughout the year by letters mailed in to the school, and staff will complete research on the individuals to create a well-rounded profile. A committee of staff and alumni then meets over the summer to select the inductees for the fall ceremony. The chosen inductees must have all made significant contributions to the school’s mission and growth.

According to a press release from Hendricken regarding the ceremony, the school’s mission is “to bring each member of its community closer to God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit – by educating the total person – heart, mind, body and soul.” The release also says the 2013 induction class “is full of outstanding examples of achievement, service and dedication toward those ends [the mission].”
