While floods, hurricanes and rising sea levels are unwelcome, they still need to be planned for. Here Michael Dowhan, one of several consultants at last Thursday’s Comprehensive Plan open house at the Buttonwoods Community Center, looks over a map showing the flooding effects of 100- and 500-year storms on the city. In the case of a 500-year storm, Warwick Neck would become an island. Of greater interest to the more than 40 people attending the event were proposals to enhance neighborhoods, improve traffic patterns, bring new companies and jobs to the city and expand and improve city recreational and open space amenities. Those who attended the open house were able to rate issues they felt were of particular importance to them and to the city. The Planning Department followed up with an email soliciting additional input. Emails may also be going out to more than 500 responding to a survey on what people would like to see in the 20-year plan. The Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee will meet Dec. 13 and a draft plan is expected to be aired at a January public hearing to be announced. (Warwick Beacon photo)
