With 10 Grammy Awards, 10 Dove Awards, a Soul Train Award, and more, Take 6 is the most awarded vocal group in music history. On Saturday, Oct. 12, the group will celebrate their 25th Anniversary with a concert at the historic Park Theatre in Cranston as part of their current tour. The show opens with a special performance by the internationally renowned Harlem Gospel Choir.

Take 6, comprised of Claude McKnight, Mark Kibble, Joel Kibble, Dave Thomas, Alvin Chea and Khristian Dentley, and called “The baddest vocal cats on the planet,” by Quincy Jones, is the quintessential A Capella group in music today. Their six virtuosic voices unite in crystal clear harmony against a backdrop of syncopated rhythms, innovative arrangements and funky grooves that bubble into an intoxicating blend of gospel, jazz, R&B, and pop. With praise from such luminaries as Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, and late superstars Ella Fitzgerald and Whitney Houston, this multi-platinum sextet has collaborated across multiple genres while delighting audiences around the globe.

Signed to Reprise Records/Warner Bros. in 1987, Take 6 has come a long way from their days at Oakwood College in Huntsville, Ala. Their self-titled debut album won over jazz and pop critics alike while taking home two Grammy Awards and landing in the Top 10 Billboard Contemporary Jazz Chart.

Opening for Take 6 from the heart of Harlem in New York City is the renowned Harlem Gospel Choir. Considered the most prominent gospel choir in the world, the Harlem Gospel Choir travels the globe as ambassadors for African-American culture. The group was formed on Martin Luther King’s birthday in 1986.

Each Sunday, the group performs at the B.B. King Blues Club in New York, where their strong following comes from far and wide to share their joy and faith through music. Throughout their award-winning career, the Choir has performed for Nelson Mandela, Pope John Paul II, Pope Benedict XVI, Sir Elton John and two presidents, while sharing the stage with such legendary artists as Bono, Diana Ross, Sinead O’Connor, Whoopi Goldberg, The Chieftains, and many others.
