The Hendricken boys and Pilgrim girls stood out on the track Saturday morning, impressing at the Mount Pleasant Qualifier and the Bishop Hendricken Invitational.

The Hawks scored 110.5 points at their invitational, putting them far ahead of second-place La Salle Academy, which finished with 61. North Kingstown finished in third place with 60.

The Mt. Pleasant qualifier was a non-scoring event, which saw two of Pilgrim’s top jumpers among the top qualifiers of the girls’ triple jump, high jump and long jump. Senior Rebecca O’Donnell finished in first in the triple jump and the long jump. Melanie Brunelle took second in the triple jump and tied for fourth in the high jump. The team of O’Donnell, Emma Landroche, Molly Lynch and Nicole Morales finished in second in the 4x100 relay. Morales also finished fourth in the 400.

The Hawks did not disappoint at the 50th annual Hendricken Invitational. Finishing first in four events allowed them to pull away from the competition. Lee Moses placed first in the 100 and Nick Stravato placed fourth. Both Moses and Stravato took first in the 4x100 relay, along with Ronnie Gaynor and John Cute. Other top finishers included Ben Murphy, who took first place in the high jump, Alex Cerbo who took first in the shot put and Colin Tierney, who finished second in the 1500. Cute also finished fifth in the 200, and junior Power Kanga finished fourth in the 200.

Tom McMahon and Matt Wilks finished second and fourth in the Sophomore 1500, while Max Waite finished sixth in the Freshman 1500. Hendricken also took third in both the 4x400 and 4x800 relays, and finished fourth in the Freshman/Sophomore 1600.

Shane Olson took third in the javelin, Jared Boulanger finished fourth in the 800, Connor Hurst finished fifth in the discus and Chris Celona placed fifth in the hammer throw.

Toll Gate girls also showed promise at the qualifier. Erika Pena took second in the 100 hurdles, Alyssa Mathews finished third in the javelin, Hannah Dubiel finished fifth in the shot put and Courtney Jacobsen finished sixth in the discus.

The teams are preparing for the upcoming state championships, which will be held Saturday, June 7.
