Hawks, Titans capture second place at Class Meets

The Toll Gate boys’ cross country team got its postseason off to a solid start this past weekend, taking second overall with a score of 111 in the Class B Championships held at Ponaganset High School.

The Bishop Hendricken squad had a strong day as well, taking second place in the Class A Championships with a score of 43. Also on the boys’ side, Pilgrim was ninth in Class B, while Warwick Vets was 12th.

In the girls’ races, Toll Gate again led the way, finishing in sixth place in Class B. Pilgrim came in one spot behind the Titans in seventh place.

Leading the Toll Gate boys’ was senior Evan Cummiskey, who finished in eighth place. Next in line was junior Nik Poulios in 20th, followed by junior Nick Mattiolli in 22nd, Ryan Viti in 30th, Jared Paolino in 31st, Brad Meunier in 32nd and Nikolas Reygadas in 33rd.

Barrington won the boys’ Class B race after placing four runners in the top five finishers.

Setting the pace for Hendricken was junior Dom Parlato, who came in fifth. He was followed by four more of his teammates in the top 11, with Tom Grizzetti, Avery Ingegneri, Grant Gauthier and Tom McMahon taking spots eight through 11. Michael Kiernan finished in 14th place, while Nick Celico took 21st.

La Salle won the boys’ Class A Meet – as well as the girls’ meet – by placing five runners in the top seven. Sophomore D.J. Principe finished in first.

Pilgrim’s top runner was sophomore Joe Tocco in 23rd, followed by freshman Kevin Dusseault in 29th. Collin Devine came in 51st, Richard Stanley came in 54th, Chris Cahill came in 65th, Cameron Gagnon came in 66th and Ryan Emilio finished in 73rd.

Vets’ best finish came from senior Jake Pikul, who came in 25th. Chris Smith was 43rd, Steven Plante was 74th, Scott Albanese was 84th, Josh Greenwood was 87th and Jake Duffy was 89th.

Toll Gate senior Erika Pena was Warwick’s top finisher in the girls’ race, coming in seventh. Her teammate Sophia Maynard took 16th, with Madison Janysek finishing 41st, Abby Tillotson finishing 45th, Grace Reed taking 48th, Lian Smithers taking 49th and Hannah Senerchia taking 50th.

Pilgrim’s Bryana Mullin finished in 10th place, with Maranda Duffie finishing in 27th. Alexia Maxwell came in 51st, Mary-Kate Agnew came in 61st and Katherine Richardson came in 63rd.

Vets’ top runner was sophomore Tess Bussick in 57th. Tram Nguyen finished in 65th, Sarah Grace Plante finished in 67th and Kylie Muziak finished in 70th.
