The Bishop Hendricken freshman baseball team capped off an undefeated season on Thursday by defeating La Salle 8-4 in the state championship game at McCarthy Field.
The Hawks finished the regular season as the only unbeaten team in the state with a 16-0 record, and they kept the momentum up in the playoffs.
They beat Toll Gate 14-1 in the quarterfinals, then defeated Pilgrim by the same score in the semifinals to set up the showdown with the Rams.
But La Salle, which was the No. 2 seed after a 14-3 regular season, couldn’t knock off the Hawks, who finished off their perfect season.
It was a fitting end for Hendricken, which scored the most runs (176) in the state, and also allowed the fewest (31) during the regular season.
