The Bishop Hendricken soccer team put itself within striking distance of a playoff spot when it posted a 1-1 draw against South Kingstown last Wednesday.

Then the Hawks stormed in.

Hendricken, which had scored three goals all season heading into Friday’s season finale against Woonsocket, broke out with a seven-goal onslaught in a 7-0 victory over the winless Novans. The win secured a playoff spot for the Hawks, who finished 3-8-3 and will be the No. 10 seed for the playoffs.

Brandon Silvestri started the surge with a goal in the fourth minute and he ended up with a hat trick after adding two more tallies. Chris Cambio, Brennan Martin, Christian Kirby and Christian Leonard also had goals, with Cambio, Kirby, Shane Davidson, Paul Phillips and Justin Matrone picking up assists.

Hendricken is slated to face North Kingstown in the first round of the playoffs. As of Monday, the schedule was still up in the air due to the weather.
