One of the most dominant dual-meet season performances Rhode Island wrestling has seen in years is two steps away from the finish line – with more dominance in the rearview but the toughest test still to come.

Bishop Hendricken ran its record to 13-0 last Wednesday with a 68-4 victory over Cranston West. It was the fifth time this season that the Hawks have racked up more than 65 points while allowing fewer than 10. They have out-paced their opponents 866-120, an average of 67-9.

The Hawks have two matches remaining in the regular season and one figures to be the most challenging they’ve faced. Tonight, the Hawks travel to Cumberland for a 7 p.m. match against the Clippers, the only other unbeaten team in Division I.

Cumberland has been dominant in its own right, with 765 points scored and 227 allowed. It held off its toughest challengers to date in a quad meet last week, beating Mt. Hope 43-30 and North Providence 40-35.

The Hawks figure to pose a bigger challenge. They beat Cumberland on their way to an unbeaten season last year, and they’re riding high right now.

Against Cranston West, the Hawks won 13 of 14 matches, with West’s Max O’Connell providing the only Falcon victory, at 138.

Hendricken got pins from Jon Celico, Jason Davol, Jamie Swanson, Lewis Stewart, Hunter Boesch, Nick Martino, Pierre Arcand and Dallas Sauer. Nick Celico and James Sauro added tech-falls, Anthony DiMauro won by major decision, and Steve Johnson and Matt Jacobsen each won by decision.

After the Cumberland match, the Hawks will close out the season on Wednesday at 7 p.m., at La Salle.
