The Bishop Hendricken wrestling team is off to a good start in their quest to capture a third-straight state championship.

The Hawks picked up three victories on Friday night, as they hosted a quad meet with three other Division I opponents – Coventry, Toll Gate and Johnston.

Hendricken rolled past all three teams – 63-6 over Coventry, 71-3 over Johnston and 72-3 over Toll Gate – en route to improving its record to 9-0 in Division I-A.

The Hawks’ lineup for the night was Cam Nappi at 106, Nick Celico at 113, Devin Rivet at 120, Dylan DiSano at 126, Jamie Swanson at 132, Matt Jacobsen at 138, John Arruda at 145, Anthony DiMauro at 152, Lewis Stewart at 160, Steven Johnson at 171, Jimmie Sauro at 182, Nick Martino at 195, Javier Avila and Colton Boesch at 220 and Frank Cole at heavyweight.

The Hawks had recently competed at the prestigious Garden State Duals at Rutgers University, where they went 2-2, notching victories over Holy Cross and Shawnee High School.

Cumberland is the only other unbeaten team within Division I wrestling, at 11-0.

The Hawks and Clippers will face-off in Hendricken’s final dual meet of the season on Feb. 11.

Titans suffer three losses at Hendricken quad meet

Toll Gate fell to Hendricken, Johnston and Coventry on Friday night at a dual meet hosted by the Hawks.

The Titans had previously notched their first league win of the season on Monday, edging Westerly, 37-30.

Toll Gate’s closest dual meet on Friday night was in a 43-33 loss to Johnston.

Despite individual wins from Hunter Stephenson, Finn Casey, Alex Mowry, Ed Pierce and Cam Vickers, the Titans fell just short of beating the 5-6 Panthers.

The Titans are scheduled to host North Providence on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. The Cougars are currently in second place in Division I-B.
