As it gets ready to go for its 23rd consecutive state title at the state meet in two weeks, the Hendricken swimming team had a pretty strong tune-up at the Division I meet.
The Hawks captured first place in seven of the 11 events to score 373 points. That easily outpaced second place Barrington, which came in with 338. North Kingstown finished in third with 307.5 points.
Senior Alex Powers was Hendricken’s top performer, winning the 100 butterfly in 55.73 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 53.59. His backstroke time was nearly seven seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
The Hawks also got a win from Michael Fedorenko in the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:52.19, Andrew Robinson in the 500 free with a time 5:01.34 and Jon O’Connell in the 100 breastroke, who swam in 1:08.88.
In addition, Hendricken had two winning relay teams.
The team of Powers, O’Connell, Robinson and Chase Martin won the 200 medley relay by nearly four seconds over runner-up North Kingstown.
In the 200 free relay, a team of Martin, Powers, Nick Tomasso and Fedorenko took care of business with a three-second win over Barrington.
Hendricken also had plenty of other standout performances.
In the 200 individual medley, Robinson finished in second, O’Connell took fifth and Tomasso came in eighth. In the 100 free, Fedorenko picked up third place and Martin swam his way to fourth.
Martin also grabbed fourth place in the 50 free, while Nick Carlson came in 11th and Keith Schneider took 13th.
In the 500 free, Michael Sundberg finished in fourth place and Jacob Fox finished in 10th. Tomasso finished in fifth in the 100 back, while Carlson came in 10th.
Sundberg took seventh in the 200 free, Schneider took 11th in the 100 butterfly and the team of Fedorenko, Fox, Tomasso and Robinson came in second in the 400 free relay.
