The outdoor track postseason continued with the class championships on Saturday, and Warwick’s best teams shined again. Bishop Hendricken won the boys’ Class A title, while the Pilgrim girls finished third in Class A and the Toll Gate girls took second in Class B.

Hawks pace boys’ teams

Hendricken, the top-ranked boys’ team in the coaches poll, followed up its division championship with the Class A title in Cumberland. The Hawks took 22 medals overall for 115 points. East Providence was second with 93.

Hendricken won the 4x100 and 4x400 relays and got a first-place finish from Nick DeCiantis in the discus. Power Kanga, John Cute, Connor Doyle, Ben Murphy and Tyler Henseler each grabbed a pair of top-six finishes. Kanga finished third in the 100 and the 200, Cute took fourth in the 100 and the 200, Doyle finished third in the 1,500 and fifth in the 800, Henseler took fifth in the 3,000 and sixth in the 1,500 and Murphy finished fourth in the high jump and sixth in the triple jump.

Also placing for the Hawks, Lee Moses took second in the 100, Cameron Ricci finished second in the 400, Marcus Swift took fifth in the 400, Colin Tierney finished second in the 3,000, Alex Cerbo grabbed second in the shot put, Shawn McAssey took third in the shot put, Matt Casbarro finished fifth in the hammer, Brandon Amo took sixth in the hammer and Shane Olson finished fourth in the javelin. The 4x800 relay finished fifth.

In the Class B meet on the boys’ side, which was held in Westerly, Toll Gate led the charge with a fifth-place finish, Pilgrim was eighth and Vets took 12th.

The Titans had six individual place-winners and also took second in a pair of relays. Tom Martella was the top performer with a second place in the 300 hurdles. Henry Smithers finished third in the 800, Ben DiNobile took fourth in the 3,000, Curran McMahon finished fourth in the 300 hurdles, Tyler Inkley grabbed fourth in the javelin and Joe Brosnahan finished fifth in the pole vault. The 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams each finished second.

Pilgrim was led by Derek Daluz, who took third in the 200 and fifth in the 100. Steve Croft added a third in the 100 and Peter Golish finished fourth in the discus. The 4x100 relay team finished third.

Vets’ lone place-winner was Ian Anderson, who finished third in the 3,000.

Pilgrim, Toll Gate girls shine again

Pilgrim finished behind only state meet contenders Classical and La Salle in the division championships and did it again at the Class A championships in Cumberland. La Salle won the title with 140.5 points, Classical took second with 128 and Pilgrim was third with 67 points.

The Pats scored big in the jumps and the throws. Kayda Phillip won the long jump and Becca O’Donnell finished second. In the triple jump, Melanie Brunelle took first, O’Donnell finished second, Phillip took third and Madison Stanley finished fifth. Brunelle also finished tied for second in the high jump.

In the throws, Destinee Barrette took second in the shot put and third in the hammer.

The Pats also took sixth in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.

In Class B, Toll Gate finished second. South Kingstown totaled 122 points, while the Titans tallied 73, one point ahead of third-place Westerly.

Erika Pena had a big day to lead the Titans. She won the 100 hurdles and the triple jump while finishing fourth in the 300 hurdles. Also for the Titans, Courtney Jacobsen finished second in both the discus and the hammer, Jess Cawley took fourth in the 1,500, Madison Thibeault finished fourth in the high jump, Haley Rouleau took fourth in the pole vault, Alyssa Mathews placed fifth in the shot put, Jillian Eaton took fifth in the discus, and Victoria Bucci finished fifth in the hammer. The Titans also won the 4x400 relay and took third in the 4x800 relay.

Vets also competed in Class B and finished 10th thanks to some standout performances. Hunter Bastan finished second in the long jump and fourth in the triple jump, while Katie Evans took second in the 3,000 and Bria McAloon placed sixth in the hammer.
