Bishop Hendricken cruised to the Suburban title at the indoor track division championships on Saturday at Providence Career & Technical Academy. The Hawks racked up 223.5 points, with East Greenwich in a distant second at 75.5. Toll Gate finished fifth, Warwick Vets took seventh and Pilgrim finished eighth. North Kingstown won the Southern Division, Cumberland took the Northern crown and Classical and La Salle tied for the Metropolitan title.

The Hawks won all three relays and seven total events, led by a pair of first-place finishes from junior sprinter Power Kanga, who won the 55-meter dash in 6.82 seconds and the 300 in 37.92. Colin Tierney won the 1,500 in 4:03.5 and finished second in the 1,000. Ben Murphy won the high jump at six feet, two inches, Alex Cerbo won the shot put at 53-03 and finished second in the weight throw, Chris Celona won the weight throw with a best of 58-09.5, and Lee Moses won the long jump with a leap of 22 feet, 11.75 inches.

The Hawks had 19 place-winners in track events, led by a quartet in the 3,000. Michael Potter took second, with Dom Parlato, Michael Kiernan and Tom McMahon right behind him. The Hawks also placed four runners in the 1,500 and four more in the 1,000. Tierney led the way in both events, while Grant Gauthier took third in the 1,500, Jack Rossi finished fifth and Patrick Hagerty took sixth. In the 1,000, Jared Boulanger grabbed third, Avery Ingegneri finished fourth and Jake Cardello took sixth.

Outside of the distance events, the Hawks had Matt Constant and John Clavin place in the 600 and had Andrew Grady joining Kanga in the top six of the 300. Nick Stravato added a third in the 55-meter dash and Ronnie Gaynor finished fifth. In the hurdles, Brendan Dillon, Dan Medici, Liam Vetter and Gage Powell all placed.

Behind Murphy in the high jump, John Larkin, Robert Merlino and Vetter tied for fourth. In the shot put, Evan Nelson took second, Ben Nelson finished third and Connor Hurst took fifth. Eddie Barber finished third in the weight throw and Mike Tarro grabbed fourth.

The top finisher from Warwick public schools was Vets senior Jeremy Morrissette, who finished second in the 300 in 38.36 seconds. Vets’ Frank Merlino also placed, taking sixth in the shot put.

Throwers Dan Johnston and Jacob Yang paced Pilgrim. Johnston took fourth in the shot put and fifth in the weight throw, with Yang grabbing sixth in the weight and seventh in the shot put. The 4x800 team of Chris Cahill, Sam Eleuterio, Joe Tocco and Sam Schoepfer finished sixth.

Toll Gate was led by Alex Pires in the 1,500, as he took fourth. Pires, Brock Massa, Daniel Underwood and Marcus Alexander teamed up to take fourth in both the 4x400 and 4x800 relays.

Girls finish up regular season

All three Warwick public school girls’ indoor track teams closed out their regular seasons on Thursday at the Providence Career and Technical Academy, and each finished with a winning record for the first time since 2002-03.

Pilgrim defeated Coventry 81 to 28 and Woonsocket 84-25, Toll Gate beat Barrington 60-49 and lost 71-38 to North Kingstown and Vets lost 72-37 to Mount St. Charles and 55-40 to Prout.

The Pats and Titans finished the season at 6-2, tied for second in Division I-Bayha with South Kingstown. North Kingstown won the division with an 8-0 mark.

Vets ended up at 7-3, tied for third in Division II-Dwyer with Central Falls and Prout. Mount won the division at 10-0, with Narragansett in second at 9-1.

Pilgrim cruised to its two wins thanks to six first-place finishes and nine second-places. Rebecca O’Donnell won the long jump, while Melanie Brunelle won both the high jump and the 55 meter hurdles, which she shared with teammate Claudia DeMelo thanks to a tie in their times. Brunelle also came in second in the long jump, while O’Donnell came in second in the 55. Madison Stanely won the 300 and came in second in the high jump, Danika Wayss won the 1000 and took second in the 1500, Molly Lynch took second in the 55 and the 300 and Maddison Caron took second in both the weight throw and the shot put.

Bryana Mullin and Maranda Duffie tied for second in the 600, and Mullin also took second in the 3000. Erin Ishwerood was fourth in the 55, followed by DeMelo in fifth, Emma Vincent was fifth in the 600, Alexia Maxwell was fifth in the 1000 and 1500, Mary Kate Agnew was fourth in the 3000, Madeline Choquette was third in the high jump, Kayda Phillip was third in the long jump with DeMelo behind her in fourth, and Miranda Plante took fifth in the weight throw. The 4x200 team came in first and the 4x400 team came in second.

Toll Gate won three events. Heather Allstrom finished first in the 300, Erika Pena won the long jump and Ani Armenakyan led a strong throwing group with a win in the shot put.

Also in the shot put, Victoria Smith took third, Victoria Bucci took fourth and Hannah Dubiel took fifth. In the weight throw, Courtney Jacobsen was second and Smith was third.

Pena added a second in the 55 hurdles, while Allstrom was third in the 55 and fourth in the long jump. Ashley Chin finished fourth in the 55 and the high jump, and Nora Hall took third in the 600 with Morgan Dugan right behind her in fourth. Jess Cawley was fifth in the 1000 and Annemarie Martella was fifth in the 55. Toll Gate’s relay teams both came in second.

Vets was led by Alyssa McCracken. The senior finished third in the 55 and the 300 and came in first in the shot put.

Carlie McPherson and Kim Buchanon picked up Vets’ other two first-place finishes, wining the 3000 and the weight throw, respectively.

Kylie Lyon picked up a pair of second places in the 600 and 3000, Michelle Spremulli came in second in the shot put and fifth in the weight throw, Kayla Bourbon came in fourth in the shot put and third in the weight throw and Bria McAloon finished second in the weight throw. Kaitlyn Johnson was fifth in the 1500 and the 4x400 relay team came in third.

All three schools won’t get much of a break, as their respective division meets will be held today at PCTA at 5:30 p.m. The class meets are soon after on Feb. 1, followed by the state meet on Feb. 15.
