Helen L. (Flodin) Simmons, 80, of Cranston, died March 23, 2014 at Kent Hospital surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late George R. Simmons.

Helen was born in Providence, a daughter of the late Oscar and Marie Rose (Messier) Flodin.

Helen was a Certified Nurse’s Aide for the Eleanor Slater Hospital for over 20 years, before retiring. She was a member of the Zion Gospel Church.

She is survived by her children Helen L. Swallow, Linda J. Simmons, Debra J. Erwin, Charles E. and his wife, Denise, George R. and his wife, Sherri, Stephen J. and his wife, Cathy, Bruce E. and his wife, Peggy, Rickey G. and his wife, Victoria. She was the sister of Edward Flodin, Frank Flodin and his wife, Rene. She was the loving grandmother of 15; great-grandmother of eight, and the great-great-grandmother of two. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Eugene Flodin, Doris Martin and Mildred Poorman.

Her funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at 12:00 noon in The Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery Warwick. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours Monday from 4-7 p.m. www.murphyfuneralhomes.org
