Helmut Augenstein, 91, of Warwick, RI, passed away on October 30, 2013. He was the husband of Alma (Haas) Augenstein to whom he was married for 68 years.

Mr. Augenstein was the son of the late Karl and Frieda (Bopp) Augenstein. He was born in Pforzheim, Germany and grew up in Cranston, RI. He has lived in Warwick for the past 65 years. He served in the United States Navy as an instructor pilot during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945.

Mr. Augenstein was the President and a founding partner of the Jewel Case Corporation of Cranston. With his partner, Alex Daunis, they built the company into one of the largest and most successful metal display box manufacturers in the country. Mr. Augenstein was a past-President of the Manufacturer’s Jewelers and Silversmiths of America, the German-American Cultural Society, the Warwick Neck Improvement Association, as well as a supporter of the Kent County Memorial Hospital and a board member of Cornerstone Adult Services of Warwick, RI.

Besides his wife, Mr. Augenstein leaves 2 sons: Helmut Augenstein and his wife, Dorothy of Warwick, and Erich Augenstein and his wife, Liz of Pownal, Vermont; and a daughter, Lisa Augenstein of Warwick. He leaves three grandchildren, Erika McEnery, Elizabeth Smith, Christian Augenstein; and 3 great-grandchildren, Caden McEnery, Addison and Walker Smith. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Karl Augenstein.

Calling hours were Saturday, the 2nd of November, at the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick. Burial was private.
