Help families of veterans & enjoy a burger at Smokey Bones

Posted

Warwick’s Smokey Bones is one of the few chain restaurants that make our Top Restaurants list.

We enjoy the atmosphere, the ribs, the hamburgers, and for me, the baked beans.

So when we read that the restaurant was introducing three new sandwiches and donating a buck for every one served to the Fisher House Fund, we headed over to the popular spot.

Fisher House helps the families of wounded veterans with free housing, while our veterans are being treated at medical facilities and veterans’ hospitals. What could be a more worthy cause!

I ordered the White Lightning, an Angus burger with shredded pork, BBQ sauce, fried pickles, melted pepperjack cheese, and infused with white whiskey. It was all I could do to finish the huge sandwich.

Joyce chose the True Bleu Chicken on ciabatta bread, topped with lettuce, tomato, and onion tangles and BBQ sauce. Also delicious.

The third sandwich is the Big Red Mac and Cheese, with marinated tomato and a side of marinara sauce. We’ll save that for next time.

We had a promotional coupon for $10 off, so our $11.99 burgers cost only $6.99, and $2 went toward their goal of raising $50,000 for the Fisher House Fund.

We also remember to base our 20 percent tip on the full cost of the meal before the discount, especially with the excellent service from our waitress, Catie, who is earning money to enter RISD.

Manager Brad Verde said that the promotion has been a big hit with his customers and will continue through the end of June.

Get over to Smokey Bones, 31B Universal Blvd, off Route 2 in Warwick. Help a veteran and his/her family, and enjoy some great food.
