Hendricken’s Gamache settling in at Binghamton

Posted

Hendricken graduate Reed Gamache has seen his playing time dramatically increase early in his sophomore campaign at Binghamton, and he is repaying the faith shown in him by posting solid numbers for the Bearcats.

Having seen action in 11 of the team’s 15 contests thus far, the former Hawk is hitting at a .293 clip while driving home a team-high 11 runs for the defending America East Conference champions.

Four of Gamache’s RBI came in Binghamton’s 10-2 rout of VMI in the first half of a March 8 doubleheader, in which he also went 3-for-5 at the plate for the Bearcats in the contest.

As for their AEC title defense, Gamache and the Binghamton nine got off to a slow start to the conference portion of the slate last Saturday as the Bearcats dropped a pair to Division I newcomers UMass-Lowell, losing both games 4-2 with Gamache going 1-for-6 in the twin bill.

The Bearcats, now 4-11 overall, will venture out on the road this weekend for a three-game set against conference rival Hartford, who have played three extra-inning contests so far this season.

Blanchard on fire at WPI

Pilgrim graduate Zach Blanchard was named Men’s Student Athlete of the Week at Worcester Polytechnic Institute after batting .433 on the baseball team’s recent spring break trip to Florida. Blanchard, a junior, had four multi-hit games, including a 4-for-4 showing in a comeback win over Anna Maria. He scored seven runs and drove in six on the trip.

Blanchard leads the team with a standout .455 batting average.
