Famous throughout the world and touted by the Chicago Tribune as “witty and wonderful” and “masterful” by the Los Angeles Times, the Reduced Shakespeare Company is bringing their manically paced collection of one-liners to Rhode Island.
On Sunday, March 4, the historic Park Theatre in Cranston will host the Reduced Shakespeare Company, a three-man comedy cast that takes long, serious subjects and reduces them to short, sharp comedies. For their Rhode Island show, the group will perform “The Complete World of Sports (abridged),” which reduces every sport ever played on every continent in the entire history of the world.
Since its 1981 origins as a pass-the-hat act in California, the “Bad Boys of Abridgement” have created seven stage shows, two television specials and numerous radio pieces – all of which have been performed, seen and heard the world over. The group’s act has included stops at the White House, the Kennedy Center, London’s West End and Seattle Repertory Theatre, as well as performances in Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Belgium, The Netherlands and Singapore.
The company’s first three shows, “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged),” “The Complete History of America (abridged)” and “The Bible: The Complete Word of God (abridged),” ran for nine years at the Criterion Theatre in Piccadilly Circus and were London’s longest-running comedies. Now is your chance to see them in the Ocean State.
The performance of the Reduced Shakespeare Company is scheduled for 4 p.m. March 4. Tickets are priced at $20, $25 and $30 and are currently on sale. There are special discounts available for groups, seniors and students. Tickets may be purchased through the theatre’s secure website, www.ParkTheatreRI.com, or by calling the box office at 467-7275.
