This Friday, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce will host the 2013 Hiring Our Heroes Veterans Hiring Fair at the Warwick National Guard Armory on Airport Road from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Local co-sponsors of the event are the Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce Coalition, the Rhode Island Committee of Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), the Rhode Island National Guard, the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training, the U.S. Department of Labor Veterans Employment and Training Service (COL VETS), U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the American Legion, NBC News, and more.

Companies participating in the fair include Collette Vacations, Bank of America/Merrill Lynch, Coca Cola, Hyatt Regency Hotel, Department of Veterans Affairs (VHA), Southwest Airlines, National Grid, Women & Infants’ Hospital, Cox Communications, CVS Caremark and many more. To register for the fair, which is recommended visit www.HOH.Greatjob.net.

Prior to the Hiring Fair, there will also be a workshop to assist veterans and other military job seekers with résumé writing skills, tips for navigating the fair, military skill translation and interviewing skills. That workshop begins at 9 a.m., and individuals can register for the workshop at www.hohworks.eventbrite.com. Walk-ins are welcome, but space is not guaranteed.

One company participating in the job fair is Combined Insurance, a provider of individual supplemental accident, disability, health and life insurance products, and part of the ACE Group of Companies.

Combined Insurance made a commitment to reduce the unemployment rate among military veterans by hiring 1,000 vets. They have been working towards that goal by remaining involved with the Hiring Our Heroes program, participating in hundreds of their job fairs across the country.

Considered a top employer of military veterans, Combined Insurance was recently ranked 8 on G.I. Jobs magazines 2013 Military Friendly Employer list. The annual list is made up of 100 companies that represent the top 2 percent of more than 5,000 eligible companies whose annual revenues exceed $500 million. Since 2010, Combined Insurance has helped more than 500 veterans find jobs.

“We have found that military veterans can make great employees especially for our industry,” said Joseph Pennington, U.S. Navy retired, and military recruiting coordinator for Combined Insurance. “They are responsible, hard working, disciplined and dedicated to helping others. We are excited and look forward to meeting with and finding some excellent candidates at the Hiring Our Heroes job fair in Warwick.”

Hiring Our Heroes, a nationwide initiative to help veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment, was launched in March of 2011 by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s National Chamber Foundation. Since then, the organization has helped thousands of veterans find jobs with participating companies.
