Archivist/historian Gail L. will speak about the genesis of the BIG BOOK, the main text for AA, beginning with events leading up to the first meeting between Alcoholics Anonymous co-founders Robert Holbrook Smith and Bill Wilson on Thursday, April 9 at 7 p.m. at the Salomon Center for Teaching and Learning Di Ciccio Auditorium on the Main Green at Brown University.

Sound clips from Bill Wilson’s 1965 Founders Day speech explain how the book was conceived and give insight into the greatest social and spiritual movement of the last century.

The lecture is handicapped accessible and open to the public.

Other events include informal talks about Robert Holbrook Smith’s collection at Brown at noon and 4 p.m. on April in the Finn Room at the John D. Rockefeller Library, 10 Prospect St., Providence, with a reception from 5:00-6:30 p.m.

Manuscripts and other objects from Dr. Bob’s collection will be on view in the library from noon to 6:30 p.m.
