Holiday Giving Trees return to BankRI this week

Posted

Bank Rhode Island (BankRI) will kick-off its 17th annual Holiday Giving Tree program this Friday to provide children in need with gifts this holiday season in partnership with local nonprofits.

Beginning Nov. 28, all of BankRI’s 19 branches statewide will display a Holiday Giving Tree in its lobby. Each branch has partnered with a nonprofit that provides the wish lists of children they serve, and every child’s holiday wish is placed on an ornament and hung on the Holiday Giving Tree.

Bank customers and members of the community are encouraged to visit their local branch and select an ornament representing a child and grant that child’s wish by providing them with a gift for the holidays. Donors may then return to their local branch to place the unwrapped gifts beneath the Holiday Giving Tree.

“The holidays are not only a special time to celebrate with friends and family, they’re also a time when we should all think about those in need and how we can help our fellow neighbors,” Mark J. Meiklejohn, president and CEO, BankRI said in a statement. “Every year, the community responds generously to our Holiday Giving Tree, and we’re hoping that continues. It’s been amazing to see how this effort brightens the holidays for children who otherwise may not have gifts to open on December 25.”

Local nonprofits partners of BankRI’s 17th annual Holiday Giving Tree include Adoption Rhode Island, Aids Care Ocean State, Community Care Alliance, Connecting for Children & Families, Kingstown Crossings, East Bay Community Action Program, House of Hope, SSTARBIRTH, ‘Tis the Season Coventry/West Greenwich, Town of East Greenwich Department of Human Services, Tri-Town Community Action, Welcome House of South County, and Women’s Center of Rhode Island.
