Homefront recruits volunteers to visit clients

Homefront Health Care is looking for volunteers to provide companionship to hundreds of home-bound seniors throughout the state.

Homefront’s Volunteer Program, launched in 2011 through a Rhode Island Foundation grant, is designed to provide weekly visits to some of Homefront’s elderly clients and help combat the social isolation that often affects homebound seniors.

For those interested in volunteering, Homefront will hold an informational meeting at its Warwick office, 335A Centerville Rd., Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 1 p.m. Potential volunteers will learn more about this volunteer opportunity, the training provided and the overall time commitment.

Once accepted into the program, volunteers will be matched with one of Homefront’s clients based on common interests, location and other factors. Volunteers will be asked to visit the clients in the client’s home once a week. Volunteers must be 18 years old or older and complete a criminal background check.

Pre-registration for the informational session is required. To reserve a spot, contact Joan LaPlante at 751-3152.

Homefront is one of the largest home care agencies in Rhode Island, making more than 3,000 visits a week. Opened in 1966 and accredited by the Joint Commission, Homefront has offices in East Providence, Harmony, Providence, Warwick, Westerly and Woonsocket. It provides high quality, comprehensive home health care through a team of nurses, therapists, CNAs, homemakers, social workers and companions.
