In for a bad surprise?

To the Editor:

If I’m right, your readers are going to get a very bad surprise if they sign up with an alternative electric supplier at this time.

The standard offer represents the average of rates from January to June. If they break off with National Grid now, they charge you an adjustment based on the inherent rate for the winter months without benefit of the spring months at a much lower rate, which combined represents the average that is the standard rate.

It’s only reasonable that they do this because their supply costs are higher in the winter.

Just read the notes re-fixed rate option for residential rates in this note from National Grid www.nationalgridus.com/narragansett/business/rates/3_supply.as.

The appropriate time to consider an alternate supplier is when the current six-month fixed rate is over and a meaningful comparison can be made with alternative suppliers.
