Interfaith service to honor MLK’s life, legacy

Posted

On Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014 at 6:30 p.m., the Cranston Interfaith Clergy Association will proudly present a musical commemoration of the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. This special event will be held at Woodridge Congregational Church.

They invite the community to hear the sounds of the Interfaith Chorus and Orchestra, conducted by Dr. Joel Gluck. The musical program will include words spoken by young people from area congregations and a video display of King’s words and historical pictures from the civil rights movement.

The speaker for the evening will be Rabbi James Rosenberg, who is a regular columnist for the “Jewish Voice” and the “Barrington Times.” He served Temple Habonim in Barrington for 33 years and since 2007 has been rabbi emeritus.

Rosenberg will focus on the influence of the biblical prophets on the vision and actions of King as he lifts up the critical involvement of the Jewish community in the civil rights movement.  His talk will also highlight the interfaith community gathered that evening.  There will be a time of fellowship following the event.

Woodridge United Church of Christ is located at 546 Budlong Road in Cranston. The sanctuary entrance is off Woodridge Street. There is plenty of convenient parking.
