It was ribbon day

Borrelli’s Bakery across from Warwick City Hall was packed yesterday with city and Central Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce official yesterday for a ribbon cutting of the fifth in the galaxy of Borrelli bakeries. The first of the bakeries opened on Smith Hill in Providence in 1948. Carmine Borrelli carried on his father’s legacy, opening locations in Johnston, North Providence, Wickford, North Kingstown and Warwick. The Warwick location got off to a “hot” start with a fire over Memorial Day weekend. Tori Swenson, who runs the Warwick bakery and is pictured outside the establishment with employees, said firefighters were there in no time and it wasn’t long before they reopened. Mayor Scott Avedisian snipped the ribbon that Tori (pictured here) quickly draped around the neck of her niece, Cynthia. And as the event came to a close, the mayor found time to get to chat with Lilly Moniz, who also celebrated the occasion. She was impressed by a super-sized chocolate chip cookie.
