(Subpar sci-fi)

Mila Kunis plays Jupiter Jones, a Chicago house cleaner who was supposedly born for greatness, destined to be the next queen of some distant planet.

Aliens are chasing her from the Chicago slums to far away galaxies, while Caine (Channing Tatum), a strange alien hired to capture her, ends up protecting her and, of course, falling in love with her.

Caine is a combination of Spider-Man, Batman and Superman. He wears these special anti-gravity shoes that make him capable of flying at high speeds over and around buildings “in a single bound,” rescuing Jupiter at least a dozen times.

The movie can’t make up its mind whether it wants to be a love story, a profound sci-fi allegory or a chase flick, never succeeding at anything.

There are pseudo profound statements like “We are not alone in the universe” and “Time is our most precious commodity,” plus the theory that humans came from another planet and killed off the dinosaurs.

There is one funny scene as Jupiter deals with the bureaucracy of an alien planet, but the rest of the two hours is pretty dark and drab.

Rated PG-13, with sci-fi violence and one rear nudity scene.
