James A. Corrigan, age 89, of Jennie Lane, Warwick, died on November 3, 2013, at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Inpatient Center in Providence. He was the husband of the late Juliette F. (Bettez) Corrigan.
Born in Providence, the son of the late James J. and Marie L. (Carr) Corrigan, he lived in Warwick since 1955. A United States Army veteran of World War II, he received a bachelor of fine arts degree from Rhode Island School of Design in1949, and a master of education degree from Rhode Island College in 1976. Mr. Corrigan was a teacher and head of the Commercial Art Department at Warwick Area Vocational-Technical Center at Toll Gate High School for 16 years before retiring in 1988. He was previously the chief designer for Peerless Display Co., and the owner and operator of Jaycor Display Company. He had also been employed in advertising by Four Roses Distillers, NYC.
He was a member of the Warwick Arts Foundation, the Warwick Public Library, the RI Art Teachers Association, and the Warwick Retired Teachers Association. He was a communicant of St. Benedict Church, and an avid golfer.
He is survived by a son, David J. Corrigan and his wife, Anne Marie, and a daughter, Kathleen A. Corrigan, all of Warwick; four grandchildren, David J. Corrigan, Andrea L. Corrigan, Heather M. Kinney, and Jessica L. Cardoza; and six great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Hazel Reynolds.
His funeral was held on Friday, November 8, at 9 a.m. from the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Benedict Church, 135 Beach Avenue, Warwick. Burial with military honors will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
