James C. Whitehead, 78, of Warwick died Sunday at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center in Providence. He was the beloved husband of Priscilla A. (Amend) Whitehead for fifty-six years.

Born in Providence, James was the son of the late Joseph R. and Lillian M. (Gould) Whitehead. James graduated from Warwick Veterans Memorial High School, Class of 1958, where he played on the ice hockey team. He served in the United States Navy. Well known and respected in the restaurant industry for years, James was a former owner of Harbourside Lobstermania, Canfield House, Carriage Inn, Warehouse Tavern and Cherrystones. An avid boater, James enjoyed many years on the water with family and friends aboard his sailboat, the Kalua.

James is also survived by his loving children: Priscilla A. Petrarca (Mark) of South Kingstown, Sherri E. Fraza (James E., Jr.) of Exeter, Glen R. Whitehead, Esq. (Jennifer) of Warwick and Jana M. Dionne (Richard) of Barrington; a sister: Dianne Whitehead of Warwick; and eight grandchildren: Malea, Jillian, Isabel, Andrew, Glen Jr., Elizabeth, Juliet and Sofia.

His funeral will be held on Friday, October 28, 2016 at 8:45 a.m. from the Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home, 800 Greenwich Ave., Warwick followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Kevin Church, 333 Sandy Lane, Warwick. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Thursday, October 27th from 4 p.m.-8 p.m. Burial with military honors will take place in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
