Jean (Smith) Martin, 83, of Warwick passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at home. She was the wife of the late Marshall P. Martin, they had been married 56 years at the time of his death.

Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Peter C. and Hope B. (Bischoff) Smith. Mrs. Martin graduated from Lockwood High School and received her Undergraduate and Masters Degree from U.R.I. She served as the Director of Christian Education for Greenwood Community Church Presbyterian for 25 years until her retirement in 1995. As an active member of the church, she served as a Deacon, Elder, Presbyterian Women Delegate and started the pre-school at the church. A current member of the Warwick Public Library Board of Trustees where she has served for over 30 years, she was also active in P.E.O. Women’s Organization.

She was the beloved mother of Bruce A. Martin and his wife, Laura of New Bedford, Massachusetts and Paul D. Martin and his wife, Karen of Fairfield, Connecticut. Loving grandmother of Jennifer L. Martin and Eric M. Martin. Cherished great-grandmother of Cameron P. Martin and Haiden L. Martin.

Her Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in Greenwood Community Church Presbyterian, 805 Main Avenue, Warwick. Burial will follow in Brayton Cemetery, Warwick. Relatives and friends are invited. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 3-7 p.m. in The Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Route 5, Warwick (Exit 12A on I-95).
