Jeffrey A. Gofton, age 67, of West Shore Road, Warwick, died on Thursday, November 20, 2014, at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence.

Born in Providence, a son of Albert F. Gofton of Providence and the late Ruth E. (Sutherland) Spenser, he lived in Warwick for over 60 years. Jeff was employed by the State of Rhode Island for 34 years, retiring as Chief of Municipal Affairs in the Department of Administration in 2004. He was the president of the board of directors of Rhode Island Family Shelter, the treasurer of the Lockwood at Warwick Condominium Association, a past president of the Apponaug Improvement Association, and a former chairman of the Warwick Democratic City Committee.

Besides his father, he is survived by two daughters, Tara G. Lamphier and her husband, John E. Lamphier of Warwick, and Melissa L. Hayes and her husband, Scott Hayes of Los Angeles, California; three grandchildren, Morgan E. Lamphier, Jake G. Lamphier, and Meredith J. Lamphier; a step-grandchild, Emily M. Lamphier; a sister, Marcia E. Jones of Warwick and a brother, Scott F. Gofton of Narragansett. He also leaves his best friend and former wife, Pegee A. Malcolm of Warwick; and his former wife Kathryn E. Richardson of Cranston.

A memorial service was held on Sunday, November 23, in the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick. A graveside committal was held on Monday, November 24, in Pawtuxet Memorial Park, Warwick.
