Job Lot opening new store across from where it started

Ocean State Job Lot, a Rhode Island discount-retailing icon, is expanding its retail footprint further in the town where it all started with a bigger and brighter store.

The address of the relocated store is 5957 Post Road in North Kingstown in the Frenchtown Plaza Shopping center (the former Mills Store furniture outlet). Just across the street from its former location, this new Job Lot is twice the size of the existing store. The Job Lot store at 64 Frenchtown Road will close on Jan. 31.

The retailer, known for its bargains on a wide variety of brand-name merchandise, has grown from its first store in North Kingstown in 1977 to 120 stores chainwide today throughout New England, New Jersey and New York. Job Lot employs more than 4,000 employees at its stores across eight states and the corporate headquarters and warehouse in the Quonset Point Business Park. There are 16 Job Lot stores in Rhode Island.

A daylong Grand Opening Celebration is planned for Saturday, Feb. 6 starting at 8 a.m. when the doors open to the public. Festivities continue throughout the morning with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. officiated by North Kingstown Town Council President Kerry McKay and other Town officials, and also attended by Rhode Island Lieutenant Governor Daniel J. McKee, state Representative Doreen M. Costa (Dist. 31) and Ocean State Job Lot executives.

During the event, Ocean State Job Lot will give away a variety of food samples from its brand-name vendors and a chance to win a $200 shopping spree. Radio station WWLI-FM (Lite Rock 105) will host a remote appearance at the store from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. featuring radio personality Steve Donovan from Lite Rock 105’s Heather & Steve in the Morning show, who will offer contests and prize giveaways.
