John D. Van Nort, 73, a resident of Warwick and Newport Richey, Florida, died January 3, 2014. He was the beloved husband of Diane A. (Belanger) Jones Van Nort.
He was the son of the late John M. and Irene G. (Mayo) Van Nort. John was employed as an accountant for the State of RI at RI College for 25 years. He had served in the United States Navy. He was a member of the Woodridge Congregational Church in Cranston and the Community Congregational Church in Newport Richey where he served on the Board of Directors for the building committee. He was a member of the USS Lake Champlain Association, the American Legion, the Disabled American Veterans, and the AFSCME Retirees.
He was the father of Brian Van Nort, Kenneth Van Nort and John J. Van Nort; stepfather of Leo Jones II, Colleen Pratt and Jennifer Pinti. Also survived by 5 grandchildren. He was the brother of Winifred Brelinsky, Roselyn Smith, Patricia Williams and the late Marguerite Godlewski.
His funeral will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave. with a service at 11 a.m. in the Woodridge Congregational Church, 30 Jackson Rd, Cranston.
