John Dias, 87, a resident of Warwick since 1954, died Friday, May 16, 2014 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Inpatient Center, Providence, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Eleanor W. (Sluiter) Dias.

Born in New Bedford, Massachusetts on April 16, 1927, he was the son of the late Joseph and Maria (deCosta) Dias. A union carpenter and member of Union Local 94, Mr. Bias retired in 1989 after 25 years of service.

Mr. Dias faithfully served in the United States Army during World War II and was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal and the European, African, Middle Eastern Service Service Medals.

Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his devoted children: Norman Dias of Costa Mesa, California, Kristine Dias of Warwick and Donna Dias of Warwick. He was the cherished grandfather of five; and great-grandfather of two. He was predeceased by his siblings: Joseph, William, Julio and Manuel Dias, Grace Cebula, Lillian Arango, Sarah Ingalls and Lucy Fernandes.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Catherine of Siena Church, 3250 Post Rd., Warwick. Burial will take place at the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Relatives and friends are invited. Calling hours are respectfully omitted.
